Re: reminder

I didn't get the instruction ppt for converting index color.
I tried to do it on my own but I couldn't find any differences.

So I think I failed in my conversion.
Since prof. Tsai advisied me to assign certain serial numbers to certain groups of color blocks (ROI, for main verbs and for predicates. You can see they're grouped into two ).
I also need to know how to do this. Like Red series 1~6 means main verbs, while Blue 1~6 (index may start from 7 to 14) are for predicates.
Thank you!

And this is what it looks like after I remove the novel text and the background. Leaving the color blocks as clues for eye tracking programs to analyze the pattern change after mnemonic devices were added. It looks like some kind of artistic work right? Cool!
And this is how I perceive the passage in tactile feeling in my synesthesia! Amazingly now I can visualize it!
I assume there will be some pulse from the reader with m-devices. They will move faster after the main verbs every time. Waiting for the data and ppt instruction to be make successful conversion.

###This is the ROI (region of interest) map for a novel passage.
For a single page, it has 12 main verbs and 12 predicates in maximum. (As I had circled)
So there would be totally 12*2=24 types of color blocks at most for a page.
I need to use GIMP to code them as 24+1=25 colors
the 1 is the background color.###

Hi, everyone

If you have not uploaded the ROI files to your folder (e.g.HW->prog->picts) , please remember to do it.
Once you have done this step, I'll transform the data for you.
We will meet in the classroom next week.

Best wishes,
Hsun-Wen

Hi, everyone

According to the syllabus, we will continue to collect data next week.
If you have done your experiment, you don't need to attend the class next week.
Prof. Tsai said that if you have any questions, you can make an appointment with him next Thursday morning.
I'll transform the data for you once you have uploaded your ROI images to the picts folder.
I'll inform you when I complete the transformation of data.

Syllabus

12/17 [lab]  data collection

12/24 [class] data analysis in the class]

12/31 [class]  [presentation of research proposal]

1/7 personal discussion of research proposal by appointment

Best wishes,
Hsun-Wen

Hi, everyone

All of you could change your images by yourself or download ROI slides through accessing below link address.
The account number and code are the same which is 104emlang

Here are some reminders for you
1. you could download the slide of ROI from the ROImanual folder.
2. you could access in your private folder(e.g.HW->prog->picts) to change your experimental images.
3. If you have modified the images, please inform me before executing the formal experiment.
4. All of you should upload your ROI images(the format is gif) to picts folder after the formal experiment. In that way, I'll transform the data including the ROI column for you.

If there is any questions about the group assignment or installation of software, please feel free to ask Prof. Tsai or me.
Best wishes,
Hsun-Wen

Hi, everyone

I'll present how to locate ROI(region of interest) tomorrow. It would be better for you to bring your laptop to practice the steps of drawing ROI.

In order to save time, all of you should download a free software before class. This software could help you to manipulate  the experimental materials. The link address is presented below.

Before executing the formal experiment, I'll divide you into 3 groups (A group: 3 students; B group: 2 students; C group:2 students).

A group : Zuzana  浩民  胡斐

B group : 雅莉  昱伶

C group : 焄紋 懷萱

Because of time limit, I hope that we could finish this experiment before 1:00 pm tomorrow.
If we are unable to complete the experiment, we will find another day to finish.
The sequence of collecting data: A group -> B group -> C group

If there is any questions about the group assignment or installation of software, please feel free to ask Prof. Tsai or me.

I hope everything is going well tomorrow.

Best wishes,
Hsun-Wen

Hello, everyone

Please upload your experimental materials to the EMRLab Moodle System before class.
I have created a folder which is named as EMLang_exp_material to let you upload your files.
All of you should prepare
1. instruction and formal experimental images which are JPG image files(1024 x 768) .
2. txt files of instruction and formal experiment

The link address is presented below.

Please let me know immediately if you have any problem.

Best wishes,

Hsun-Wen

Hi all,
We will meet at the classroom for Zuzana and 胡斐's paper presentations next week. After it, you go to the lab to practice the setup procedure of running EM experiment, including operating the host PC to adjust eye images, calibration, etc.. The goal is that you can go through the DEMO experiment as the experimenter by yourself.

We would have no time to let you design your own experiment and implement it as expected in such a short time. The compromised way is to collect some eye movement data on the stimuli that are as similar as possible to those you plan to do in your proposal. Although it may lacks of the manipulation requiring additional efforts (e.g. delivering auditory information, training, napping , etc..), you still can  get a sense of the eye movement measures and scanpath on the visual display. Of course, you can try to add these additional manipulation manually without modifying the experiment program (e.g. play the audio clip on your own laptop), or play around with specific instruction.

For collecting data of the experiment,  each of you will have to prepare:

1. One or more pages of instructions for participant to read on the computer screen. Each page has to be a JPG image files (1024x768).
2. Make the materials that you want to collect eye movements as JPEG image files (1024x768). At least four trials are required. The content can be text, pictures, or both, according to your plan.

Let me know if you have any question.

Best,
Jie-Li

Hello, everyone

There are some things to remind you.

1. The deadline for e-mailing the paper to Prof. Tsai will be 11:00pm today.

2. You will have to present the journal paper confirmed by Prof. Tsai this Thursday and the length of presentation should not exceed 15 minutes.

3. By the topics, you will come up with some ideas about the directions of your proposal. You will also hand in an abstract to Prof Tsai via e-mail before December 3rd (12/3).
*There is no certain format for the abstract.
*This abstract should not exceed one page and should include the purpose of the experiment, experimental design, and examples of materials
*You will have to conduct an experiment based on this abstract in the EMR lab.

4. We will have a session of lab practice on December 3rd (12/3).

Best wishes,
